Hard Facts & Soft Paintings, Galleria Napa, Rovaniemi 2.-20.11.2013
History of Painting II, 35x25 cm
2012, oil on canvas
The title, Hard Facts & Soft Paintings relates to an idea about the world that does not care about our opinions conforming only to use of force that makes art soft by comparison. Contemporary art, however, strives to challenge and question our persistent habits. On the other, hard facts are not that hard anyway, the artist adds. Besides surveillance and punishment we are, as well, able to destroy our live environment. Science fiction framing hard facts pushes us to consider reality as fiction. In removing the dark colour the enlightening lines become a soft surface of woollen threads, as a shreading patchwork blanket. The connotations of the title lead unnoticed into an ironic skirmish about the capacity of art changing the world.
